It’s time for another interview, this time with Miroku Zenco! He’s an amazing cosplayer from Florida, who has made some great costumes!
What’s your cosplay alias and why did you choose it?
My cosplay alias is Miroku Zenco. The first part came from middle school, since my friend was always calling me Miroku. The Zenco part came from when I was on Gaia and it was my roleplaying name that I used. It became my alias and stuck.
How many years have you been cosplaying and what got you started?
I have been cosplaying since 2007, so about 4 years. It’s something I had wanted to do since my freshman year in high school.
What has been some of your favorite things to work with when constructing costumes and why?
I don’t really have one thing I like to work with. I have fun making everything on the costume.
What are you excited to be working with in the future and why?
Two of the cosplays I currently have in the works are remakes of my Roy Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist and Vlad the Impaler from Hellsing Ultimate.
What are some of the traits you like to see in other costumes and who do you think does well in them?
I love seeing different costumes people make. I love seeing all the effort people put into them. Everyone has the ability to do well in cosplay.
What is your view of the “cosplay scene”?
It’s a fun and great hobby. It’s a great way to meet people and there are more and more people starting to join in on it everyday.
What are some of the things you want to see change in the scene?
Hmm… this is a challenging one. I have to say I would like to see less of the overdone cosplays and more of the ones people don’t know about. Like there are way too many Hetalia cosplays but I rarely see any Darker than Black or Escaflowne cosplays.
What is some advice you could give people starting to get into cosplay?
Don’t let people tell you that you can’t do something. If you want to do it, then go for it; shoot for the stars.
What are some of your favorite conventions you’ve attended and why?
Shadocon, Dragon Con, and Momocon. All three have been a blast and I met a lot of people and saw great cosplays.
Give a random fact about one of your costumes that you’re proud of!
The pattern I used for my Miroku cosplay (from Inuyasha) was my graduation gown.
Thanks for the interview, Miroku Zenco! You can see more of his work on his Deviantart!
