It’s time for another interview, this time with Suiginto! She’s a talented cosplayer from Russia, who has a wonderful collection of costumes!
What’s your cosplay alias and why did you choose it?
My alias is Suiginto. I took it from one of my favorite anime, Rozen Maiden. There is Suigintou – beautiful doll. I liked her from first view, because our characters are similar.
How many years have you been cosplaying and what got you started?
I have been cosplaying for two and a half years. My first cosplay I sewed for my first cosplay festival. It was a cosplay of Blair from “Soul Eater”.
What has been some of your favorite things to work with when constructing costumes and why?
Well, my favorite thing when I prepare cosplay is wig styling. I am good at doing it and I like the process.
What are you excited to be working with in the future and why?
Mm… I always raise my requirements for myself. And I always worry that I can choose inappropriate characters, do bad costumes, etc.
What are some of the traits you like to see in other costumes and who do you think does well in them?
Oh, I like big dresses with crinoline. Especially dresses with many difficult details. Or I also like costumes with big beautiful wings. I like dresses by cosplayer Astarohime. Her dresses are really difficult.
What is your view of the “cosplay scene”?
I think that it’s good thing. It’s good when cosplayers communicate with each other.
What are some of the things you want to see change in the scene?
I don’t think about changes.
What is some advice you could give people starting to get into cosplay?
I always give this advice for people: never give up! If you really want to succeed, you have to work and if you work, everything will be good.
What are some of your favorite conventions you’ve attended and why?
I take part in all local cosplay festivals in my town. I like it. I also like to take part in online competitions of photo cosplay.
Give a random fact about one of your costumes that you’re proud of!
Well… I can say that all the lace on my dress for Hatsune Miku cosplay (Cantarella version) was sewed by my hand at night before a festival. It was 5 a.m. when I went to sleep. I was very tired, but I sewed all the lace. Everybody liked my dress.
